There are many different ways to love a sport, such as baseball. Some enjoy playing baseball, others like watching the games. For many baseball fans, the baseball statistics of their favorite or least favorite players are one of the most important parts of the game. It is common knowledge that baseball is the national pastime. Baseball is also a relatively slow-moving sport, which allows fans to keep careful track of baseball statistics. Players and managers even use baseball statistics to prepare for a game by judging the strengths and weaknesses of their opposing players.
• Baseball statistics also play a major role in a team manager’s decision to sign or recruit a player to their baseball team. Because of this, the 1950s were an amazing time for baseball scouting with real baseball statistics available for the first time to help make these decisions. Mathematical formulas that are used in baseball statistics are also used by teams to decide who will help their roster. Some consider following and reading baseball statistics to be a science, and it has impacted the very sport of baseball forever. In order to get a realistic picture of which players are performing well in a baseball season, managers consider it more useful to compare them to other players from the same year as well as their own past performances. This allows them to see how they would match up against another player and if the baseball player has improved as their career progressed.
While baseball statistics are not everything, they certainly are important when it comes to the game of baseball. Some players, like Babe Ruth or Mickey Mantle have records that are still held in the highest regard. These records are known because of baseball statistics.
