An array of Learn to Skate programs exist on "The Fastest Ice on Earth" at the Utah Olympic Oval where Olympians broke world records and earned gold medals. The Utah Olympic Oval Learn to Skate program follows the U.S. Figure Skating Basic Skills program curriculum. No previous experience is necessary. The class curriculum is progressive in nature. If this is your first class you must enroll in Basic Skills for Beginners Snowplow Sam 1 (ages 3-5), Basic 1 (ages 6-15), or Adult 1 (ages 16 & up).

• Classes are held either twice a week for three weeks or once a week for six weeks.
• Skaters in Basic Skills for Beginners participate in six 45-minute class sessions consisting of 30 minutes instruction and 15-minutes practice time.
• Skaters in Advanced Bridge Program participate in six one-hour class sessions consisting of 15-minutes on-ice warm up/practice time, 30-minutes on-ice and 15-minutes off-ice instruction.
• Classes are taught by registered U.S Figure Skating Professional Coaches and Basic Skills Instructors providing expert instruction.
• Not all ages and levels are taught at all class times. Refer to the scheduled sessions below to find the class times for your level.
• If you are interested in Learn to Play Hockey or Learn to Speed Skate, you can sign up for them after passing the Basic Skills for Beginners Basic 2 or Adult 2 level.
• Cost is only $50 ($10 off for early registration, before the first day of class).
• Rental skates and helmets (required for ages 8 and under) are included in cost.

Class Levels:

Basic Skills for Beginners:

Snowplow Sam 1-3 (ages 3-5): This class is designed to help preschool-age children develop the preliminary coordination and strength necessary to maneuver on skates. At this level, these FUNdamental skills are taught with the use of games and motivation. Upon completion of Snowplow Sam levels 1-3, skaters may go directly to Basic 2.

Basic 1-4 (ages 6-15): Skaters are introduced to the fundamental moves of the sport – forward and backward skating, stops, crossovers and turns. Development of these skills enables skaters to advance to the more specialized areas of figure skating – Free Skating, Ice Dancing, Pairs and Synchronized Team.

Adult 1-4 (ages 16 & up): Designed to help the beginning adult skater learn proper skating techniques, improve balance and coordination, and promote physical fitness. Adult skaters will progress at an individual rate while being challenged and motivated.
